Summer Case: Two New Arrivals in London

Something very unusual has happened in London lately.
The sun has decided to stay.
For several days in a row.
As a detective panda, I felt this deserved investigation.
Back in China, when the weather gets warm, people often reach for an umbrella.
Or a hat.
Or the nearest patch of shade.
The goal is generally to avoid becoming part of the sunshine.
In Britain, however, I have discovered a completely different approach.
The moment the sun appears, everyone rushes outdoors.
Parks fill up.
Outdoor café tables become prime real estate.
People sit happily in the sunshine for hours.
Sometimes doing absolutely nothing at all.
Just enjoying the fact that the sun has shown up.
It's almost as if sunshine is a limited-edition collectible.
Naturally, I took notes.
While conducting my research, a new friend arrived at the shop.
The Detective Panda's Umbrella.

I assumed she would be most useful on rainy days.
She politely informed me that this was a rookie mistake.
"In Britain," she explained, "you can experience sunshine, wind, drizzle and a small existential crisis all within the same afternoon."
A fair point.
Perhaps carrying an umbrella here is less about rain and more about being prepared for absolutely anything.
Another newcomer also caught my attention.
A panda who insists on carrying Big Ben everywhere he goes.
I asked him why.
He looked at me quite seriously and replied,
"Everyone who visits London wants a photo of Big Ben. I thought I'd save them the journey."
I couldn't argue with that logic.
So he has officially joined the team as the Big Ben Panda Plush.

Today's investigation didn't uncover any great mysteries.
But it did reveal a few useful facts.
Britons treasure sunshine.
Londoners love Big Ben.
And a detective panda should never trust the weather forecast completely.
Case closed.
For now.
